Deeble's Diary - day 6

Great win today in trying conditions.

I managed for a lot of years in the Gulf Coast league where the temperature was at boiling point, but I don’t think I have ever been as hot as I was today.  Sun screaming straight into our dugout, plenty of ice vests and iced towels.  I knew it was hot when our EO Robbo's (Robert Moden) T-shirt was completely wet.  I felt for our players out there but they stuck to their guns and recorded a great victory.

Searle did a great job on the mound as did Andy Russell and Brendan Wise. Naughton hit a solo home run to tie the game; everyone contributed today.

10:45am bus tomorrow for a big game vs. a talented Dominican Republic; loaded with big leaguers and mainly AAA players.  I truly believe though that our pitcher Ruzic can keep them at bay.  When he hits his spots he has nasty stuff, it looks like he is throwing the ball from SS when you stand up at the plate, he is 6'8 tall and 88-91 kg with nasty sink.

This is a must win game for us to stay alive.  We will have hydration tests in the morning for the boys as the heat would have taken a lot out of them today.

Wearnie (Scott Wearne) came in to play defence for us tonight at 3rd and made the last play.  I had to laugh as he was so low to the ground there was no way that ball was getting through.

Hopefully the bats stay hot tomorrow and we can send back some more good news tomorrow.
