Deeble's Diary - Day 2

Not a great start to the tournament.... 14-0 against Cuba but I don’t think the score indicated how we played. We had perfect defence tonight and grinded out some really good bats, Mattty Kennelly line a ball up the middle, as did Joel Naughton. Tom Brice had a 14 Pitch at bat then singled to RF, Tim Kennelly drove a gall into the gap and the CF made an amazing diving catch, Jimmy Beresford was unlucky not to get a hit on a slow roller to SS, he made a big league play coming in to get him by a step.

Pitching wise we were good early we made 2 bad pitches which cost us 6 runs a 1-2 home run by Cepeda which was a way too good of a pitch in that count belt high over the middle, and then a 0-2 grand slam with 2 out, again way too good of a pitch. Ruzic was trying to miss outside but it went straight down the middle, I will say though outside of those 2 pitches he pitched in well and had the Cubans on the back foot, he is a sidearmer with sink, jamming the Cuban hitters for the most part, after Ruzic we gave up some hard hits, we had the young kids go out there to get an inning in to wet their feet.

The boys are upbeat but got a quick lesson on how the best play. We play Italy tomorrow, looking to bounce back, I loved the way we went about our business and still confident we can win our 4 games and move into the next round.

Tomorrow we are off to Santiago to take on Italy.
