Deeble's Diary - Day 3
Early start today, 7.45am bus.
Played Nicaragua today in a practice match, if you can call it that. Played on a bad field with the light poles inside the home fun fence, no umpires turned up, I had to umpire the 1st half and their guy the 2nd. We got beat 9-7 but that is no indication of how the game went, it was a tiny field we lost 5 dozen balls into the houses in BP . When the Cuban team turned up for their game they called our game off in the 7th .
We had some good pitching today from Ryal Searl, Andy Russell, Brendan Wise, Kable Hogben, Hayden Beard and Steve Kent.
Huber had a good day he had 3 hits a double and 2 singles he hit one ball off the rcf concrete wall which bounced back to 2nd base, they didn’t need a fielder, longest single in the world, we also hit a triple which hit the light tower in CF but you can only get a double which cost us a run, Stefen Welch hit well also he hit a triple down the RF line which scored a run, their team complained it went over some invisible line we didn’t argue but they really didn’t want us beating them, James Beresfored had a good day with the bat 2 hits, Tim Kennelly hit a towering home run, we had our chances for 3 big innings but could get some clutch hits with bases loaded and no outs and 2nd and 3rd 1 out.
All in all it was a good hit out for us, the humidity here is amazing, it is so hot and the boys struggles with it a bit today, coming off a 40 hour plane trip it is expected they would be a little exhausted, they are in the pool now for a recovery session, we are getting the fluids into them also as the heat and humidity really hits you.
Overall good day today, we have lots of really exciting arms, they are young but I think in 2-3 years if we can keep them together this team has a chance to go places.
